EquiMiR for Equine superficial digital flexor tendonitis
Tendon injury is one of the most common injuries in competing horses and one of the leading causes of retirement in racehorses (1). Of these, injuries to the superficial digital flexor tendon are by far the most common accounting for 75-93% of cases.
Recognising the impact of these injuries on both horse and owner, Causeway has developed EquiMiR a novel microRNA therapy that targets key disease pathways active in tendinopathy improving the speed and quality of tendon healing. EquiMiR has been tested into two randomised controlled equine trials that showed a single dose delivered by ultrasound-guided injection into damaged tendons resulted in better-healed tendons (2). “I have never seen lesions heal as quickly and completely as some horses in this study”.
